Why is Self-Love important?
And how to stay motivated, even when you’re ready to give up.
Bring self-love into your daily life in a fun & playful way!I'm in, let's go!
And how to stay motivated, even when you’re ready to give up.
To explain why self-love is important, here’s a quote from my contributing chapter in the International Best-Selling Book, Entangled No More:
“Loving yourself is one of those gifts you didn’t know you needed until you received it. It’s one of those gifts that keeps on giving. Whether it just brightens the lens through which you see the world around you, fills your life with more meaningful connections and opportunities, or simply frees up some of your precious time that you otherwise spent in self-degradation, you will never ever regret learning to love yourself. Loving yourself really could be the answer to all your prayers.”

In my previous blog ‘What is meant by Self-Love?’, we discussed that self-love is about taking action towards your health and well-being and giving yourself what you need, wherever you are at. Loving yourself enough to accept where you are at in any given moment, to not judge yourself, but to meet yourself in that place.
This state of acceptance and meeting yourself where you’re at, gives space for you to feel what you feel, express your emotions and allow them to move through you (e-motions are energy in motion after all!).
And for anyone that has read ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, ‘When the Body Says No’, or ‘The Bridge’, you will know that giving space for your feelings, and releasing that energy, is one of the most loving and supportive things you can do for your health and wellbeing as it prevents the build up of negative emotions, and makes space for more positive ones.
Self-love encourages you to start making better choices for yourself and your life. When you value and respect yourself, you naturally want to pursue healthier avenues, be proactive about your health, and remove toxic, unhealthy things from your life.
Now I think it’s important to discuss the reality of the self-love journey, and that is, it sure ain’t for the faint-hearted among us. Fiercely working towards your self-love, healing, and reclamation of your personal power is one of the hardest, boldest, and bravest moves you can make in this world.
Not only will you be met by loved ones, strangers, and systems that will try to put you in your place and force you back into your box, but you will also have to contend with that pesky inner critic that is demanding you return to the safety of self-doubt and self-persecution.
So, in a world that is hell-bent on putting you down, seeing you fail, and profiting from your own self-loathing, it’s time to reclaim and revolutionise the most important relationship you have – the one with yourself!
A large amount of your self-love journey will consist of you falling off the path, and finding yourself face down in a pile of shame and distractions. It takes considerable guts and perseverance to pick yourself back up time and time again, dust yourself off and clamber back onto that self-love path.
So, if you really want to show up for yourself, embrace your inner rebel and get ready to fight back against the system that is insisting you keep quiet, stay small, and fall back in line with the self-hate status quo. Join the revolution and fight back by simply loving yourself.
Are you ready for this next part, because I’m going to come at you with a few truth bombs?!
So, just like many of you, I have spent years wandering down the rabbit hole of my purpose, questioning why I’m here and secretly waiting for my Hogwarts letter.
Falling for the best-sold-lie that my purpose was something material (like my job), something super-human (like saving the planet), or something supernatural (like discovering I have superpowers).
But after all this searching, diving into different religions, philosophies, and self-help modalities, not to mention the intense soul-searching and conversations with my Higher Self, I now wholeheartedly believe that our purpose, each and every one of us, is to know yourself, accept yourself, and love yourself, so that you can finally master yourself.
How can your purpose be to people please, to harm yourself, or to believe you’re a piece of sh*t? It just can’t, it doesn’t make sense!
I passionately believe that loving yourself can unlock all the best things that this life has to offer. Self-love is the key to unlocking your purpose, power, and potential.
It may sound lame and cheesy, but loving yourself really will increase your life satisfaction and shift your perspective on how you see yourself and the world.
Self-love brightens the lens through which we look at life, drawing in more gratitude, positivity, and abundance.
By increasing your self-love, you will in turn decrease your self-doubt. And less self-doubt leads to more confidence, which leads to making bolder moves in your life and going after what you want with less fear or hesitation.
With improved health and wellbeing, a deeper sense of purpose and fulfilment, in addition to feeling confident, grateful, positive, and abundant, who could help but fall in love with their life?!
Take some time to connect inwards and reflect on why self-love is important to you.
Journal Prompts:
How could cultivating a deep sense of self-love enhance your life? Consider the following – your health, wellbeing, mindset, relationships, perspective, outlook.
Anchor in
Getting clear on the why of your self-love journey can really help to motivate you to carry on doing the deep work necessary to love yourself. In order to fully anchor into your why, I invite you to create a phrase, mantra or list of buzz words to summarise your why.
You can then write them on a pretty piece of paper, decorate it, or print it out. Stick it somewhere visible as a daily reminder e.g. by your bed, on your fridge, next to your desk.
Sharing is caring!
Once you have got clarity on why loving yourself is important to you, I would love it if you shared your findings in the comments below! This will support others who might be struggling, to get even more inspiration on their own why.
